At The Bouqs Company we appreciate music, and lately the office speakers have been jamming with “Didn’t Know You” by Karmin. It’s the brand new single off their forthcoming album, Leo Rising, which is based on the signs of the Zodiac. We are also quite partial to their visually stunning video, which you can watch here:
We had the chance to talk to Amy and Nick about their music, life, art, astrology, and even how flowers have saved Nick a few times from having to sleep on the couch. Below is an excerpt of the interview.
I read your name is derived from the word karma. We at The Bouqs Company know a thing or two about karma. We even have a “Good Karma” Bouq! Tell me the story behind your name and what karma means to you.
At first we just picked the name because we like how it sounded, but as we continue to create we feel it’s really an appropriate representation of our group. Carmen is also Latin for song and we feel that both the importance of great songs and good Karma are imperative to Karmin and any artist out there. Another meaning of our band name as of recent is Karmic Astrology, which traces the soul’s evolution from past lives into the current life, setting the stage for a great journey of free choice in this incarnation.
You’re new music video is super creative and visually amazing. What inspires you here? Also, will the videos you release for your forth-coming album all have a common theme?
We love storytelling. When developing the concepts for our new videos, we made sure that each one would tell an interesting visual story. The first video is Didn’t Know You and is set in the early American west and incorporates our “Man in Blue”. The other videos we release for this album will all feature this man in blue, but be set in different places and times. We did this to support our album’s theme of a journey through past and current lives.
So being a real-life couple that is also in a popular music group together…. You must have instances where you need to send each other flowers.
Nick: Ha, yeah. I have many times put my foot in my mouth. Good thing Amy Loves flowers. I also like to pick the colors and styles so it makes her feel like I put some effort into it. That stuff is important to me.
