Light It Up
Let’s face it – the winter season can be a bit dreary when it comes to the lack of sunlight outdoors. Plus, with the days seeming shorter and shorter, it’s easy to feel a bit down in the dumps.
Luckily, there’s some ways to tackle this winter gloom head-on, and one of them is to make a small lifestyle change: sleep earlier. Going to bed at an earlier time will not only provide your body the rest it deserves, you’ll find yourself naturally waking up earlier and experiencing more of the day. And yes, this means more time to partake in all the daytime activities you wouldn’t be able to do if you were to sleep in!
But sometimes, even a few changes to our sleep schedule isn’t enough to get us bright and jolly for the winter season. This is when you can invest in some festive string lights to bring some of the brightness back into your life. Since the holidays are coming up anyways, you’ll find that it’s only appropriate that you celebrate by beautifying your home with some extra lights. You’re not just limited to wrapping them around trees and garlands, though. Try hanging string lights from the ceiling, on doorways, over your beds, or over the fireplace. The possibilities are endless!
And not just with water (even though we also recommend drinking a healthy amount of that, as well)! Cold air and low humidity are probably the worst combination for keeping our skin healthy and hydrated. But here’s some of our quick tips on making sure you’re staying moisturized:
- Lotion or moisturizer is your best friend. Carry a travel-sized bottle with you at all times!
- Put a humidifier on your bedside table to prevent dry skin throughout the night.
- Protect yourself and your skin from harsh winter winds or sleet by bundling up in your favorite cozy hat and mitts.
- Don’t over-cleanse; this can strip your face of its natural oils, which keeps your skin healthy and hydrated!
Less Is More
Minimalism has become a popular practice for those who want to de-clutter their lives of unnecessary things, and we think it’s a great way to get rid of some stress too! Not only will you have less in your life to worry about, you’ll have more time to focus on yourself and your happiness without depending on all the physical items in your life.
How you can kick off a minimalist lifestyle is not as hard as you think – baby steps! Donate what you don’t need, set up a stricter budget so you don’t end up spending as much, and disconnect from social media for a bit. All these little changes to your daily routine can be the way to go if you’re up for the challenge.
A lot of us associate self-care with DIY spa days, and although there’s more to it than just applying a face mask, we totally agree that part of taking care of yourself is pampering yourself.
Now, there’s no denying that warm showers are just crucial during the colder months, but if you want to jazz up a normal shower into something life-changing, try hanging a few branches of eucalyptus leaves by your shower head. It’s a weird concept, we know, but hear us out: bringing in some of these wonderful greens into a steamy shower will actually activate and emit a lot of its leaves’ beneficial oils. This can clear up any congestion you might be having (which is unfortunately quite common during the winter season) and leave you coming out of your daily shower feeling oh-so-relaxed!
You don’t always have to go out there and find a few stray branches of eucalyptus; you can always repurpose them from a flower bouquet you’ve had in your home and continue treating yourself to the freshest showers anyone can ever have!
