In 1967, tens of thousands of free-spirited flower children gathered in San Francisco to celebrate unity and a newly emerging consciousness. What emerged was an unforgettable influence on fashion, music, art, and politics. The West Coast, perhaps the entire country, would never be the same.
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love, Free People headed back to the spot where it all began to document their ‘60s-inspired line of throwback pieces and pay homage to the holy hippie ground.
And, for an iconic moment in history marked by the song “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair),” how could The Bouqs Co. not don our best vintage denim and join the party?
We had the honor of decking out the day with farm-fresh Gerbera daisies, roses, and a host of other stems to usher in the good vibes. Photographer Jason Lee Parry and musician Staz Lindes took cues from iconic rock photographer Baron Wolman, channeling the Summer’s lazy, hazy energy and shooting images and video on film –– a total time warp situation! What a summer, what a day.
So we got to thinking, how could you recreate your own Summer of Love-inspired shoot? Well, first you’ll need to choose your location. If you don’t have the budget to book a trip to the Bay, find a park in your area where you can spread out on the grass and soak up some warmth.
And, of course no shoot is complete without the right outfit. Free People has you covered with their vintage-inspired collection. Style their pieces together or grab an old band tee in your closet and update it with one of Free People’s Summer of Love accessories.
Try making your own peace sign. Sprinkle in a few stems to add a touch of earthy goodness to the photo op. Our Wild About U Bouq is full of the right colors and textures for your shot. Then apply a vintage-inspired filter and post away!
Don’t forget to use #Bouqlove when sharing your shots on social, and make sure to include #FPSummerofLove and #FPMe if you pick up any of Free People’s picture-perfect threads.
Peace, love, and Bouqs. <3
