Administrative Professionals Day: Q&A with Office Manager Johnny Serna

National Admin's Day Johnny Feature

This April 21st join us for National Administrative Professionals Day and celebrate the hard work of all our precious admins everywhere in the world!

By definition, an administrative professional is a worker who provides support to a company – so anything including general office management, answering phones, speaking with business clients, helping out an employer, and other clerical tasks. If you have a rockstar in your office that deserves some recognition for all that they do, we want to especially give them a shout-out for being just all-around great!

At The Bouqs Co., our very own Johnny Serna talks a bit more about his job title, what he loves about his work, and what he does after hours! Find out more below.

Johnny Admin's Day

Q: Tell us about yourself! Who is Johnny?
A: My full name is Johnny Serafin Serna. People also call me Jonathan or John, but I’ve never adopted either name fully. I am the office manager at The Bouqs. I’ve been with the company for over 5 years! Prior to this, I ran a beauty school for 6 years–as an Admissions Director, Office Manager, and a Salon Manager. I have an artistic mind. I like to be creative as well as administrative so I’m passionate about being on the People Team.

Q: What are 3 things you love about your job?
A: I love people, I’m definitely a people person, which is why I thrive in interacting with and supporting my colleagues. Secondly, I love culture. Creating a sense of family at the workplace is important to me since many of us in LA are transplants. Third, I enjoy working for and representing a company that carries the same values and beliefs that I was brought up with. Caring for the environment and spreading love are two near and dear values to me.

Q: What is your favorite memory of The Bouqs Co.?
A: Oh wow, there are too many to count – One memory that I hold close to my heart is moving into the new HQ! Being involved in the planning and execution of moving into a large space that was virtually four walls and working alongside all of the great minds that made our new HQ come to life was something special to me.

Q: What advice would you give to other admins?
A: Take pride in your work. At times there will be many fires to put out at once, but in the end, the reward of knowing that you conquered the hurdles far outweighs any stress. It’s important to get the job done, but it’s also important to have fun! Love coming to work every day. Don’t take life too seriously. Even when I have to be stern, I like to joke about things because that’s just the way I am. Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.

Q: Describe Johnny after hours.
A: Oh man, I don’t know if I should say too much (haha!) I am very much an adventurer so I like the outdoors like hiking new trails, watching a sunset at the beach, that sort of thing. After-after hours, (pre-pandemic) I love a good dance floor and a good craft cocktail! Outings, music festivals, and good times with great friends are all my jam and I can’t wait for some normalcy to return to the world.

Q: I just want to say that you have a great fashion sense, so how would you describe your style?
A: Thank you! My style at the office would be very business casual, young professional. I’ve always loved fashion and creating a statement with the articles that I wear! Outside of the workplace, I would say my style is very avant-garde – I like to stand out. I like to wear things that are unique so I love to shop whether it be at Barney’s or at a Goodwill. I’m definitely a little bit of a shopaholic!

Q: We know you love being yourself now, but if you had a choice, who would you want to be for a day and why?
A: One of my artist idols is Kendrick Lamar. He’s just a great lyricist – he’s hip but also intelligent. To have a voice and platform and use it to spread a message and change the world is something I admire!

Now that we got a chance to sit down and talk to Johnny, we strongly encourage every employee and employer out there to get to know their admin too – in and out of the workplace!

National Admin’s Day is one of the many days of the year where you can give back some of the love to all the secretaries, receptionists, and other administrative assistants out there. Start with a simple thank you card or even a wonderful arrangement of flowers to relay your gratitude.

And if you’re an admin yourself, The Bouqs Co. just wants to say that we’re thankful for everything you do – you all rock!
