The chill of the winter season slowly disappears, and soon enough, you find yourself opening up the windows in your home again to welcome in the warmer breeze of the new season. That’s right, it’s spring! Symbolizing a fresh start, spring pushes out the aftermath of winter festivities and brings forth new beginnings and new opportunities to flourish. And speaking of flourishing, have we mentioned the gorgeous flowers that bloom during the season?
There’s no question that we all love spring for the flowers; they add that much-needed pop of color to the neighborhood trees, the local farmers’ markets, and our very own gardens, but sometimes we just want to get the full experience of what Mother Nature has to offer. If you’re looking for inspiration for a DIY spring flower basket or looking for floral ideas for a spring wedding, you can find inspiration in these fields.
If you live in the U.S., you’re in luck – flower fields are everywhere, even in the places you wouldn’t expect them to be! During the later months of spring, people have ventured out to different parts of the country to marvel at these vibrant blooms (and snap some photos for their social media, of course!) For your viewing pleasure, here’s our list of some of America’s best fields of spring flowers:
Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, California
Located near Los Angeles, California, Antelope Valley showcases the brightest sea of orange poppies you’ll ever lay eyes on – 1,700 acres of them! Aside from the coastal beaches and desert plains, California proudly boasts its overall naturistic beauty with an entire field of their very own state flower. In-state residents can show off some California love by paying a quick visit to the poppy reserve during April, its peak bloom month. Angelenos can expect about an hour-and-half drive away from the city, but we can assure you that the view of these wildflowers is definitely worth the gas mileage.
Skagit Valley, Washington
Tulips aren’t just a thing in the Netherlands – we also have them here in the one-and-only state of Washington. The tulip fields in Skagit Valley showcase tulips in different colors, collectively displayed with other flowers such as daffodils and irises. Visitors can also partake in other activities provided by the surrounding attractions. Families can enjoy Tulip Town, which not only feature acres and acres of colorful tulips but also fun trolley rides and exhibits of giant tulip bouquets. Or if you and your best friends are just there to hang out, your group can always stop by the Tulip Valley Winery and enjoy a glass of either beer or wine to wind down.
Peak season usually lasts from March to April, but make sure to keep an eye out on the weather forecast – Washington’s unpredictable climates can affect tulip blooming. If you’re visiting Seattle, and love flowers, it’s worth the 2-hour drive to check out Skagit Valley.
Keys Creek Lavender Farm, California
What can we say: California is just the place for some the country’s lushest flower fields! Situated in the northern valleys of San Diego County, you’ll find the most breathtaking display of lavender flowers in Keys Creek Lavender Farm. Not only will a tour around the fields make you fall in love with these pale purple beauties, but it’ll also educate you on the benefits of incorporating lavender in skin and hair products. Did you know that lavender essential oils can be used to treat aching muscles, acne, and sunburns? The more you know!
Be sure to plan a countryside getaway at Keys Creek during bloom season (the months of May and June) to get the full experience.
Wildseed Farms, Texas
Right outside of Fredricksburg, near Austin, Texas, you’ll find just over 200 acres of some of the most vibrant wildflowers in the nation. Wildseed Farms houses fields and fields of wild daisies, cosmos, poppies, and sunflowers throughout the year, but if you’re in the mood for some Texas spirit, then you shouldn’t miss out on the bluebonnets that bloom across these green pastures during the month of April.
As you explore their different gardens and trails, make sure to stop by the Brewbonnet Biergarten for some snacks and their peach ice cream! Their recipe includes some of the freshest, locally grown peaches in the country.
Carlsbad Ranch, California
We can’t finish off this list without including one of the most breathtaking fields of ranunculus flowers to exist in the U.S. (or in the world)! Located in North San Diego County, Carlsbad Ranch displays almost 50 acres of colorful ranunculus flowers, and what better way to welcome the warmer months by taking a day trip to see rows and rows of the freshest spring blooms around? The ranch offers wagon rides that navigate you through the flower fields so you can get up-close and personal with some of California’s brightest bursts of color.
Remember: peak bloom occurs around mid-April, and we recommend that you bring a light sweater to keep you cozy from the coastal breeze!
