Birthdays are the best excuse to celebrate someone for . . . well, just being them! Whether you want to throw the biggest birthday bash for yourself, your children, or any other special loved one, or a surprise birthday party, you want to make sure it’s nothing short of festive.
When it comes to planning an upcoming birthday party, you probably have a long list of things you have to get done before the big day. You can always hit up your local party supply store to cover your birthday decoration bases, but if you want to get extra creative, adding a personal touch with your very own DIY birthday centerpiece is a fun, thoughtful way to do it.
Whether you are a well-seasoned DIY’er or only dabbled with a few projects in the past, this project is sure to impress! Check out the steps below to create your very own DIY whimsical birthday tablescape with some #BouqLove
Materials:
- Flowers (we recommend bright blooms like daisies or carnations)
- Glass bottles
- Mod Podge or gesso
- Acrylic paint
- Tissue paper
- Twine (or rubber bands)
- Scissors
- Butcher’s paper
- Paint brushes
- Painter’s tape
Paint your bottles
Step 1: Paint Mod Podge or gesso on your glass bottles and let dry.
Step 2: Once the bottles are prepped and ready to go, paint over the base with any bright color of your choosing.
Step 3: After the paint is dry, arrange your blooms of choice (we suggest daisies) into the bottles – don’t forget the water, of course! Leave them out to dry for a few hours while you continue onto the next step.
Create your tissue flowers
Step 1: Layer up your tissue paper. Fold it in half and cut along the crease.
Step 2: Fold the halves into equal-sized rectangles, accordion-style.
Step 3: Tie the middle of your folded paper with either twine or a rubber band, then spread it out like a fan.
Step 4: Ruffle up the individual layers to mimic fluffy petals. Once you fold up the final layer, you should be left with a peony-like bloom.
Create your splatter paint table cloth
Step 1: Measure out the butcher’s paper to the length of your dinner table and cut accordingly.
Step 2: Lay out the butcher’s paper over some newspaper as a safety net. Add a bit of water into some small containers of paint; this should make the consistency thin enough to splatter everywhere. Don’t be afraid to get a little messy with it!
Finally, arrange your table-scape!
You can go down the traditional route and set the floral display along the center of the table, or you also have the option to arrange the table buffet-style with plates, utensils, snack platters, and drinks.
You also have the option to bring your cute setup to life with a chalkboard and a crate for added dimension
