If you haven’t heard it by now, self-care is a must. Whether it’s spending ten minutes sipping your morning coffee, turning off your phone for a few hours, or doodling in a notebook, little moments help you relax and refresh. While it’s easy to say you should care for yourself, it can be a bit harder to actually make it happen. If this sounds familiar, we have the answer!
Flower subscriptions take away the work of remembering to order yourself a bouquet every now and again. A few minutes now leads to months of flowers that will bring a smile to your face (and remind you you’re worth it). Plus, bouquets provide you with materials you can use to create some great DIY projects. We’ve even created a bouquet designed to help you practice self-care!
Flower Subscription Exclusives Have You Feeling Good
Not only do flower subscriptions remove the need to order individual bouquets, but they also provide some additional perks. While every Bouq is worthy of love, sometimes it’s hard to choose just one…and you end up ordering nothing. When you order a subscription, we pick out your flowers for you and give you access to exclusive bouquets not available in the online store.
With these mystery bouquets in the mix, you’ll truly never know what you’ll receive. A lily bouquet you’ve been eyeing in the online store? A seasonal bouquet that helps you celebrate fall? Or a special bouquet crafted just for our subscription members?
To give you a taste of these subscription-exclusive bouquets, we’re introducing you to the Feeling Good bouquet, a mix of flowers designed to help you practice self-care. With roses, eucalyptus, and thistle, you’ll have lots of ways to use the flowers even after they’ve lived out their lives in their vase.
Relax with Rosewater
If you’re thinking rosewater is just meant for putting in treats like baklava and halva, think again. While this rose-scented water does make an excellent addition to sweets, it also has lots of other uses and some serious benefits. If you want some of this magical floral liquid yourself, learn how to make rose water at home.
Protects and Soothes Your Skin
Rosewater is great for your skin! It helps moisturize while also cleansing away oil, dead skin, and dirt — that means clean, clear, and vibrant skin. Rosewater also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help with minor redness as well as conditions such as eczema and rosacea.
Along with making your skin look gorgeous now, rosewater also contains powerful antioxidants to help protect your skin cells. Now you know why you see roses as a part of so many skin products!
Helps with Wounds and Infections
Roses also impart antibacterial and antiseptic properties to rosewater. While you shouldn’t use rosewater to treat serious issues, you can use it to help prevent infection in minor cuts, scrapes, and bug bites.
Sets Your Mind at Ease
You know what they say — stop and smell the roses…or rosewater. Using rosewater in aromatherapy can help alleviate anxiety and depression as well as help with sleep. The scent of rosewater can also decrease headaches. The next time you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed, take a minute to breathe in some rosewater.
Rejuvenate with Eucalyptus
You probably already know eucalyptus as one of your favorite bouquet greens, but did you know it can also help you relax and breathe easily? Fortunately, there are lots of ways you can use fresh eucalyptus to receive these benefits.
Benefits of Eucalyptus
If you’ve ever smelled the unmistakable eucalyptus scent or walked down the cold medicine aisle, you might already be thinking this plant has some medicinal benefits.
Eucalyptus contains eucalyptol, a compound that helps decrease anxiety and stress. When you inhale eucalyptus oil, you’ll likely feel a few of the day’s troubles melt away.
Another thing eucalyptus helps melt away is snot (gross, we know). When your nose, head, and chest are clogged with that dreaded mucous, go ahead and breathe in some eucalyptus oil to get things back to normal. Even if you’re not feeling sick, open airways will help you obtain the oxygen you need to feel energized and focused.
If the following benefits aren’t enough, eucalyptus oil also contains antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. That means it can help soothe muscle aches, heal scrapes, and provide some relief for minor sunburns. If you’re planning on rubbing eucalyptus oil on yourself, it’s best to dilute it with a neutral carrier oil like coconut oil or olive oil.
Ways to Use Eucalyptus
Now that you know all the benefits of eucalyptus, it’s time to experience some of them yourself. Try out one of these DIY options to add some eucalyptus love to your daily routine.
Create a Eucalyptus Shower Bundle
Anyone that tells you they couldn’t use a touch of a professional spa at home is lying. While going to a top-notch spa is great, we don’t always have the time or money to make a trip possible. Fortunately, you can bring a bit of those relaxing vibes to your own bathroom with a eucalyptus shower bundle.
When you hang some eucalyptus in a steamy shower, the heat helps release the plant’s powerful oils and aromas. Of course, this fills your shower with the refreshing eucalyptus scent, but it also provides all those benefits mentioned above.
Creating a shower bundle is easy as one, two, three. First, gather the eucalyptus from your Feeling Good Bouq. Second, tie the branches together with twine or a simple rubber band. Third, hang the bundle in your shower and get ready to enjoy your personal spa.
Make an Herbal Sachet
Remember when potpourri was all the rage? Well, take an ode from these dried floral concoctions to create a eucalyptus sachet that will keep your linens and clothes smelling fresh.
Once your eucalyptus has lived out its life in its vase, hang it upside down in an area with low humidity and good airflow. After about a week, the plant should be fully dry. At this point, remove the leaves and place them in a lace or mesh bag.
Put the sachet in a closet or linen chest to keep the items inside smelling fresh. The eucalyptus will also help keep away pests that may try to make a home in your sweaters or blankets.
Eucalyptus Facts
While it’s now popular all over the world, the vast majority of the 700+ eucalyptus species are native to Australia. In fact, over half of Australia’s forests are made up of eucalyptus! If you ever visit, you’ll find plants ranging from tall shrubs to trees over 200 feet tall. And yes, you can spot koalas munching their way through these eucalyptus forests.
People have long prized tall eucalyptus species for their wood. Since eucalyptus is a fast-growing plant, areas harvested for timber can quickly regrow into forests.
While eucalyptus oil has many uses, it should be used with caution. Consuming small amounts of this oil in cough drops or tea is safe for adults. However, large doses of eucalyptus oil can cause major problems, especially in children. So keep those essential oil bottles out of little ones’ reach!
Keep Beauty with Dried Thistle
While there’s nothing like fresh flowers, let’s be real, they don’t last forever. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t capture their beauty to enjoy later.
Drying flowers is one of the best ways to preserve fresh bouquets. That said, some flowers dry better than others. And thistle is at the top of the list! Since thistle flowers are hardy, they hold up well to drying. Once they’re dry, you don’t have to worry about delicate petals breaking or thin stems snapping.
So how do you dry thistle? It’s easy! Simply gather your thistle and hang the plants upside down by their stems. Place them in a dry place with good airflow; a fan can help. After a week or two, your thistle will be dry.
At this point, it’s time to get creative. You can mix thistle with other dried flowers to create beautiful arrangements (if you need inspiration, check out more dried bouquets). Or you can remove the flower heads and place them in a bowl or shadow box for a conversation-starting display.
Keep Up the Self Care
After your Feeling Good Bouq is gone, it doesn’t mean you should stop practicing self-care! If you’ve followed our lead, you’ve created a home spa and have rosewater at the ready. However, if you didn’t have the time to give your bouquet a second life, don’t worry!
One component of your Bouq will never fade: the mason jar vase. When you have some spare time and are looking to get crafty, go ahead and upcycle the mason jar into a citronella candle. This candle will keep the bugs at bay so you can enjoy some relaxing time outside. Plus, making the candle is a treat in and of itself.
