Celebrate Our Nurses
These are our school nurses and home health practitioners, the ones staffing the frontlines in our hospitals and assisting our doctors and specialists. They might be taking care of a loved one in a care facility or patching up our first responders. From nurse-practitioners to mid-wives, it’s time to celebrate all our nurses. They deserve our greatest recognition for everything they do every day.
Send Flowers for Nurses Week
Do you have a friend or family member who is a nurse? Have you or a loved one recently been tended to by a nurse in a hospital, nursing home, or another setting? One of the best ways to honor these special health care professionals is to send them fresh flowers to thank them for their service, and a farm-fresh Bouq is perfect for the occasion.
FAQ
WHY DO WE CELEBRATE NURSES IN MAY?
May 12th was Florence Nightingale’s birthday. She was considered by many as the founder of modern nursing practices, and she earned the nickname “The Lady with the Lamp” for tending wounds, training nurses, and checking on patients even in the dark of night during the Crimean War.
For many years, the U.S. Department of Health and Welfare lobbied for a National Nurses Day to honor Ms. Nightingale and all the other nurses. In 1982, National Nurses Day was created on May 6th in honor of Ms. Nightingale. From there, National Nurses Week was designated to be celebrated yearly from May 6th to May 12th.
How Do We Celebrate Nurses Week?
Friends, family members, and patients of nurses commonly give flowers or other gifts to nurses on National Nurses Day and throughout what is now National Nurses Month. Additionally, receptions, celebrations, seminars, banquets, and city and state proclamations are traditionally held across the country to honor the work of nurses.
